BUKIT LANJAN: 1Malaysia harmony still very much alive but antics of racial, religious bigots must be checked

The 1Malaysia spirit of multi-racial multi-religious Malaysians living harmoniously and respecting each other’s religion and culture is still very much alive.

The antics of racial and religious bigots, who are wreaking havoc and threatening national unity, are still a minority but they are surely a growing threat to peace-loving Malaysians.

“The bigots must be checked to ensure that they do not succeed in destroying peace and harmony in Malaysia,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

“I was most touched and relieved to see the Malay community eagerly and enthusiastically watching and recording the twin-lion dance at my Chinese New Year afternoon tea reception.

“This shows peace loving Malaysians are not easily influenced by the negative and insensitive utterances of racial and religious bigots.

“They reject any attempts by any quarter to drive a wedge to disunite Malaysians with sensitive racial and religious issues,” he added.

Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), said the Malay community in Bukit Lanjan had shown they have no problems living harmoniously in a multi-racial society.

“Likewise, the majority of other Malaysians are also equally positively receptive to social community activities and programmes like this.

“This is really a powerful incentive for me to work hard and earn your trust to serve Bukit Lanjan with honesty and commitment,” he added.

Syed Razak said: “I will continuously raise issues of public concerns in cyberspace because this is one way to get the attention of the authorities concerned to react and rectify accordingly.

“Of course I would be more effective in serving the needs and interest of Bukit Lanjan constituents if I succeed in getting elected as your assemblyman in GE14,” he added.
