BUKIT LANJAN: Truly humble, frugal and sincere service to her people and country …

Malaysia sorely needs more Susi Pudjiastuti as politicians who serve with dedication, honesty and sincerity.

The Indonesian minister has shamed many politicians globally with a true display of humbleness, frugality and sincerity to serve her people and country as an elected representative of a government.

“The picture of Susi sleeping at a US airport lounge has gone viral for all the right reasons,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

“To me, the picture is worth a thousand words. It is a picture that truly reminds everyone about humbleness and truly positive values of a person in public office.

“I am pretty sure Susi could have spent government money to rest in the comfort of a hotel room. But she did not!

“To me, what she did was to save her taxpayers’ money. No need to spend unnecessarily because she could make do with just a nap.

“To put it crudely the Malaysian way, that’s not my grandfather’s money. It’s taxpayers’ money belonging to my country. I have to think twice before spending it,” he added.


Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), said given the current sluggish global economy, “it will do well for the administration of countries to be frugal in their spending”.

“What every country now need are more Susi Pudjiastuti in government administrations, including Malaysia,” he said, adding that countries with many such political leaders will certainly prosper healthily.

JAKARTA: A photograph showing Indonesia’s Maritime and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti sleeping while reclined on a couch in a waiting area of John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, US, went viral on social media on Monday and won her praise for being a “super woman.”

Susi reportedly fell asleep in a VIP lounge of the airport after attending a United Nations conference about maritime affairs in New York on Sunday, during which she got a compliment from actor Leonardo DiCaprio for combating illegal fishing and for protecting the sea.

The picture was uploaded onto a Facebook account owned by a Jim B. Aditya at 12 a.m. on Monday.

"This super woman deserves to be called the mother of Indonesia's seas," Jim wrote as a caption.

Jim added that DiCaprio also called her a brave woman who inspired the world.

The picture had been shared by at least 1,700 users and attracted 10,000 responses by 12:40pm.

A man name Edi Susanto wrote on the Facebook account: “This is an official who cares about her people, especially fishermen. Bravo, Susi."
