BUKIT LANJAN: Prioritise educational needs of children - knowledge is power, sky’s the limit

Knowledge is power and the sky’s the limit - that’s the potential of children’s academic excellence.

That’s the motivation for parents to prioritise the educational needs of their children.

“As parents, our responsibility is to see to our children’s academic excellence. They need all the parental guidance that we can provide,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

He said all parents expect the best for their children’s potential success as a working adult and “this can only be facilitated with excellent parental guidance, with parents spending quality time with their children and family”.

“Shower them with love but do not spoil them with materials. And discipline must be maintained when necessary and do not be distracted from our focus on the proper upbringing of our children,” he said in his address to parents at the N.37 Bukit Lanjan Tabika Kemas pre-school concept briefing on Feb 11, 2017.

Syed Razak said only caring parents who spend quality time with their children “can give their children the edge to grow up as responsible and mature successful adults”.

“The responsibility of educating our children does not lie on teachers only. We, as parents, have the most responsible role in seeing our children maturing into productive and successful working adults who also contribute to nation-building.

Syed Razak, who is Gerakan’s nominee to contest N.37 Bukit Lanjan in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), reminded parents that Bahasa Malaysia is the national language of unity but “English language is also equally important for achieving academic excellence in Science and Mathematics”.

“Mastering both languages and the fluent use of the languages are certainly the key to achieving academic and career excellence,” he said at the Orang Asli Desa Temuan Community Hall.

Syed Razak added that education was an issue “very close to my heart”.

“If given the chance to serve Bukit Lanjan after GE14, I intend to devote a greater part of my time in the cause of education. I have 11 years experience as a Parent Teacher Association chairman.

“I will use that experience to help raise funds for community education programmes. This, I believe, should be my main responsibility, if elected as an assemblyman, because neigbourhood unity is a natural result from such programmes.

“As much allocations as possible must be channeled to ensure Bukit Lanjan becomes a role model united community for neigbourhood progress,” he added.

Syed Razak also gave away prizes to children who participated in a colouring contest.
