BUKIT LANJAN: Is the rot eating into Khazanah Nasional?

BUKIT LANJAN: Is the rot eating into Khazanah Nasional?
Singapore’s Straits Times (ST) reported that sovereign wealth fund (SWF) Khazanah Nasional lost RM9 billion in two years, plummeting 9% of its value or public wealth.

Khazanah responded swiftly with a statement rubbishing the ST news report.

“ST is a reputable news organisation. It is not expected to publish rubbish,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

“Responding with a media statement to rubbish the ST news report is simply not enough or inadequate. It is simply unconvincing to the public.

“If the ST news report is truly rubbish, then Khazanah should not hesitate to take legal action against ST for seriously tarnishing its image,” he added.

If ST’s report is factual or accurate, Khazanah’s performance in the two years is not only unacceptable and shocking, it is certainly a wake-up call.

“Any significant loss or dip in performance by a SWF must be seriously looked into,” Syed Razak said.

He said Khazanah, Malaysia’…

BUKIT LANJAN: RM52 million down the drain? Heads must roll!
This really cannot continue for Malaysia. Year in and year out, the annual Auditor-General (A-G)’s Report would reveal tens and hundreds of millions of ringgit in public money gone to waste.

Malaysia really cannot afford any more such “grandiose” wastage of public funds. Those irresponsible decision-makers must be taken to task.

“If the federal government continues to ‘not take action’, as usual, and choose to maintain ‘business as usual’, Malaysia will most certainly not progress,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

He said the two-year-old RM52 million Crops for the Future Research Centre (CFFRC) White Elephant, as highlighted by the A-G, must not be taken lightly.

“It shows inefficiency and incompetency continues to dog the federal government administration. Over the years, as highlighted by the A-G, hundreds of millions, if not billions, have gone down the drain, caused by incompetent decision-makers and di…

BUKIT LANJAN: Selfish US not for greening and healing Earth
Some 200 nations kept a 2015 global agreement to tackle climate change on track after marathon talks were overshadowed by US President Donald Trump's decision to pull out.

The Americans have always stuck to its own selfish geo-political agenda to serve only their interests, doing all necessary, including waging wars and killing.

“So, we all now know the real reason why the US isn’t so keen on the electric vehicle (EV) technology. That’s why it is stalling on its approval for EVs that are fitted with Artificial Intelligence (AI) features,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff.

The US, Syed Razak said, was still sticking to its global coal and oil agenda. “It’s so selfish of them (the US) to pull out on a global warming initiative that affects the whole world.”

He said China appears to be the super power leading the march to global EV technology perfection and also research and development into alternative sources o…

BUKIT LANJAN: Global vehicle sales to plummet by 2040 due to ride hailing?
Oil demand to rise, 80% of the vehicles sold worldwide in 2040 will still use some form of petroleum-fueled combustion engine?

Electric vehicles (EVs) demand to remain at a low 19% only?

“The forecast figures and statistics touted by IHS Markit sure is mind-boggling, isn’t it?” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

He said IHS Markit’s study was akin to concluding that consumers would not embrace new and advance automobile technology, like EVs?

“I am not too sure and convinced by the study, least to say it’s flawed. Common sense dictates that the majority of consumers, except for the rich and super rich of course, will always go for savings.

“EVs will be cheaper to run, and it will also contribute to anti-global warming efforts. Why would demand for EVs be so low as touted by the study?” he asked.

BUKIT LANJAN: Impressive Lazada – RM100 million sales in a day but …
It was enlightening to read The Star Online posting titled “Lazada Malaysia smashes sales record on Nov 11”.

Enlightening because it shows that Malaysians are, after all, not so lagging in the digital era – as far as e-commerce is concerned.

“That’s very good for Malaysians who have embraced cyberspace to keep up with global e-developments,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak Alsagoff said.

However, Syed Razak said, Malaysians must be cautious with their digital transactions, especially when it involves transfer of funds.

“Lazada is a proven reliable e-commerce App with a proven track record. However, there are many other so-called e-commerce Apps that are unreliable and they are being shared and promoted on social websites, especially Facebook,” he added.

“I have a friend who was billed RM1,628.87 by Citibank in October 2016. It was for an Apple phone which Citibank said was a valid transaction.

BUKIT LANJAN: Damn it! Malaysian drivers don’t value road safety and their lives

BUKIT LANJAN: Damn it! Malaysian drivers don’t value road safety and their lives
The survey statistics are mind boggling. It shows a significant large number of Malaysians do not value road safety and their own lives.

National news agency Bernama reported that 43% of Malaysians use hand phones when driving or riding. And that 53% Malaysians even send text messages while driving.

Police booked more than 46,000 Malaysians for using handphones while driving last year.

“If that is not endangering themselves and other road users, you can call me stupid,” Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razzak Alsagoff said.

He said Malaysians not only appear to be non-law abiding when on the road, they are also filthy rich to take risks and pay compound fines.

“Perhaps the fines are too low? Raise them to RM1,000 and then we will see whether such errant drivers will continue to flout the law and endanger themselves and others on the road,” he added.

Ø Poverty is no excuse for not achieving academic success or excellence

Ø For all means and purposes, you must be good in English. I don’t care what the Education Ministry says that Malaysia’s education is world standard, that is not right … we have gone to producing quantity and not quality …

Ø Education is the key to raising everyone’s societal status as well as to earn a decent income … reading is the key to knowledge and knowledge is power …

The above about sums up Gerakan Deputy Speaker Syed Abdul Razak’s Alsagoff speech and key message to teachers and parents at the SJK (T) Effingham’s prize presentation day in Bandar Utama on Wednesday Nov 22, 2017.
